(Allium cepa) This long-day red onion is an excellent keeper. It is deep wonderful burgundy in color, crunchy, medium-large and pungent. It is very reliable and a heavy yielder. Ruby was released sometime around 1965. Its medium to large in size. Firm pungent red flesh. Heavy yields. Stores well. 110-125 days. Transplant seedlings in late spring and harvest onions in summer, when long days promote bulbing. Onions require evenly moist, well-drained soils, with minimal weed competition. Plant Seeds: 1/2" deep with 1" between seeds in rows 12-15" apart, or in flats 4-6 weeks in advance of planting. Soil Temp: 50-90 F.
